Quite Intersting
Rob
Really? Honestly, this is the most uninteresting Apple product since the Performa series in my opinion. Yawn. Not compelling. The SJ RDF will probably help my opinion, but still. My phone works. Thats all I need. (gah, am I getting old?!?!)

Does anyone think a slightly bigger version of this would be a fantastic desktop?
I, for one, would be happy to spread the Word to the ignorant masses if Apple came out with a cute little white tower to match everyone's cute little white iPod. :P The Mini's nice, and the new iMac is nice too, but I think this thing could help Apple a lot in the desktop segment. I'd say something like that's bound to come out at some point, but when is the big question.
Also, it's probably been mentioned earlier in the thread, but does anyone know how long after Kentsfield Clovertown is supposed to come out? I heard "early 2007" a while ago, but with Kentsfield coming out so early, I would think Clovertown won't take that long.
P.S. Is it my connection, or is the Mac web starting to slow down as it struggles to handle all the traffic generated by the upcoming Apple event?
Arnold Schwarzenegger inIs this really a page 1 item?
The real news would be a release date, or an upcoming event.
Still, I want one!
agreed. I've come to the decision that whatever apple releases with regards to a phone-like object will probably knock my socks off. The question is WHEN?!?!@?#

May be Apple will give a silent upgrade to MBP before the special event just like they did with Mini and iMac before "Its Showtime"!
What say?
Perhaps, but the big question is:
What is Apple releasing at Photokina?
Aperture 2.0 - too little
ACD - recently updated
MBP/MB - at a Photo conference??? hardly.
iPhone - again at photo conference??
I dont have clue...

I see Apple stock going up on this news. $100 Million is getting off easy. Could have been a LOT worse.
The aftermarket response for AAPL has been negligible...down 21 cents on top of a 31 cent decline in regular trading. Creative, on the other hand, is now up 36% in after hours trading.
Arnold Schwarzenegger ironicHoly Guacamole!
That is Sick!
They need to come out with that right now!
Schwarzenegger, during ani thought this from my first post, but his join date is 08, and he's a regular. that is what has me thinking that what he is saying is really how he thinks/acts.
I looked through some of his older posts, and while none of them are quite as obvious about how shallow and uncaring he is you can tell that he probably doesn't include the whole story. For example, he likes to argue with his neighbors (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=978345&highlight=) I'm guessing that we only got half the story in that thread. Sounds like he was pretty rude in an Apple store. (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=644656&highlight=) and one quote from that thread:
I want the genius I dealt with to get in a car wreck tonight. I want to deal with the genius you got.

plus parking in a handicapped spot. (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=928429&highlight=) So based on past examples of his attitude here, I think this is really the way he thinks, not just an attempt to troll.
Arnold Schwarzenegger isI have a newbie question.
I plan on moving onto MAC OS (from Windows 7) but I wanted to wait for Lion, but I'm also quite impatient since the iMac is perfect for me.
Being new to Apple computers, would I be able to use Lion (like an upgrade) when it comes out?
Arnold Schwarzenegger, a odyDon't 90% or more of the MP3 players on the market also infringe this patent (including the forthcoming Zune). By making this payout Apple have given Creative the means to fight other companies (such as Microsoft, Sandisk, etc) which could tie them up for years and possibly even delay the launch of Zune. Meanwhile, Apple have their nice license agreement and can continue unabated...

I have a feeling Ted Stevens won't appreciate Apple's movie store. It'll take his staff weeks to send him an internet.

Yes, you know what an "app store" means if you know what an "app" means.
Does an "app" mean an Apple program?
It's doesn't matter what MS calls it. There's a class of programs everywhere called "applications". There's no other name for it.
Applications are a strict subset of programs.
Apple didnt TM application or app they TM appstore.
I dont see why people are trying to argue the wrong point.
MS can call it something, I and others have given different names they could use. MS has the marketplace, hell that is a generic name as well. Should apple sue them for that?
Arnold SchwarzeneggerEDIT: @adk - yes I am 16, however in this situation my mother was in the car and actually encouraged me to cut the idiot off. So it's not just an age based thing.

2012 is a long way off. Buy now, enjoy it now and sell and upgrade when the time comes. I'm terrible for getting caught in the waiting game. You just wait for eternity.
I'm not sure the pros will lose the DVD drive. It'll encroch into MBA territory and pros are meant more for industry use where the drives are useful.
MBA for casual use. MBP where nothing is compromised.
13 needs a better screen though. I've just bought my first 13 MBP and the soft resolution is a bit disappointing.
Would you disagree that, just perhaps, in these industries where the DVD drive is so crucial that they might just have external drives? Apple is trying to sell these MacBooks to everyone, not just pros. It's the internet and App store are capable of doing the exact same thing as DVDs (for most computer purposes). For everything else, buy the external superdrive. 15% of MBP customers might need a DVD drive, but we know Apple isn't going to ignore the 85% who don't.
Those who don't want the superdrive have the option of an air. People in the music industry will always have a use for CD's. I just think no superdrive makes it an air varient not a pro.

i really feel that greenpeace is trying to use the fact that Apple is the "cool" tech company to get what they want done. for instance, if Apple is bad for the environment, we hippie college kids won't think they're as "cool." Apple loves us hippie college kids and doesn't want to lose us as customers, so they HAVE to be greener - greener than all other tech companies which are JUST AS BAD AS APPLE - then the other tech companies will have to follow suit, because that's the way it is. Apple got rid of CRT displays a while ago- dell still sells them, hp still sells them... they've got friggin lead in them! ALL lcd panels contain mercury.... i mean i don't really see greenpeace's point here. i mean, yeah, i'd like apple to be the greenest, that way i'd feel better about giving them my money. but they do take back old iPods, they do take back your old computer when you buy a Mac... it's not like they do nothing. i think greenpeace is doing a pretty dumb thing here- they should be lobbying governments to make these chemicals illegal to include in consumer electronics, not attempting to bully apple. just my thoughts on the matter.
When the day comes that holographic screens make it to the market...maybe the green lust will be satiated and all will be well..unless the projector for holograms is a candy-coated ball of lead, powered by the liver of an infant.

Sounds like a pretty convincing reason to move to Sweden if you are an American.
OLYMPIA ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGERSo umm yeah....w00...go Apple...new Video Ipod...living in the Uk...why should I buy???????????????
Apple doesnt have ANY TV shows or Movies in the UK to buy. Why should I bother buying a video ipod now. Yeah I know I could store my FULL music collection but I want an ipod for wearability (at least for Music) when walking to school.
The deal clincher to make me buy a video ipod would be TV shows / Movies but it's been a year of TV shows for the US but ZIP / ZILCH / NADA for the UK. C'mon Apple get talking to the BBC / ITV. I'm sure you could work something out !!!!!.
And well movies is a "we hope to go international" so well meh to that.
So considering I'm not one of those people who a) wants to wear an ipod not carry b) doesnt need my complete music collection c) lives in a country where Apple has jack in terms of content what makes the Video ipod a compelling purchase

Great news!
My six year old iMac G5 just gave up the ghost yesterday, so I am eagerly awaiting the new models.
OLYMPIA ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGERThe real question is when will the true video ipod be released? Christmas?
I just watched the stream. Not before Christmas. Jobs made it pretty clear that these updates and new iPods are the holiday product line up.

I hope there are extra expensive chairs lying around Ballmer's office today
Any chance we'll see an Apple widescreen H.264/AAC camcorder there? And how about an iPod dock connector/cable to use an iPod for storage to keep the costs down (and sell more iPods)?

Does a 1333MHz bus matter? (http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2795&p=6)
Not only is the Anandtech Article one of the better ones, they simulated a 1333 bus speed with the X6800-EE processer, and came up with an overall inprovement of 2.4%, with DivX 6.1 providing a 7.5% boost!
Also, to quote the article:
"If Apple does indeed use a 1333MHz Woodcrest for its new line of Intel based Macs, running Windows it may be the first time that an Apple system will be faster out of the box than an equivalently configured, non-overclocked PC. There's an interesting marketing angle."
WOOHOO!!!
I like Anandtech, they are very fair to all sides and give the facts.
You're quite wrong there. AirPlay IS AirTunes. It's AirTunes + video equivalent of AirTunes. An Airport Express is now an 'AirPlay device'.
Actually, he is right. The two use different protocols when streaming. The video portion of AirPlay is done differently and does not require the private key. It just employs setting up a "server" whenever its being utilized. I have it set up on XBMC, and it works just as it would on an AppleTV.
The audio portion, that requires the key, has finally brought it full-circle. Can't wait to have it on my XBMC box.

I bet ballmers goal is $5.99 billion profit next quarter.
In the quarter where Apple will still be selling alot of iPads? And release a new iMac? I highly doubt that would be enough. Let's not forget about Back to School either.
Also, does anyone think Apple will soon be forced to bail Microsoft out? ;)
