Arnold Schwarzenegger - ThenApple, Please!
Just give me a Media Center where all my music, video and pictures are store.
A place where I can connect all my Entertainment room devices, a place where I can connect my HDTV display, a place where I can download songs and eventually movies, a place where everything is connected and works beautifully. A place where I have an UI that is elegant and simple as the Ipod UI or Front Row.
Something like a Mac Mini format or little larger would be great.
That's is what is missing in the digital lifestyle IMHO.
Apple bring it on!
Ipod widescreen video, also will be very welcome!

If Apple kills the MacPro it is there own fault. I can member when they used to be affordable at $1499 and now they are completely out of my price range for a new computer. I have been using an 867 G4 for TEN YEARS and will finally upgrade to an iMac with more power then 3 867's put together.
1 $1499
Intel Core i7-2600S Processor
(8M Cache, 2.80 GHz)
8GB RAM
2TB HD
AMD Radeon HD 6850 Graphics
Sounds great to me!:)
Wow, Arnold Schwarzenegger isthese obviosly gonna be optimizd for the full screen ipod, whats wrong with avi format anyway.
The fact that it isn't a "format," for starters.
$10 ~ $15, if that is the price for anything below a 720p encoding of a movie, would be the stupidest thing that Apple has done. (Well, at least in the last 10 years or so.)
If they do 720p encodes - and that would have to be the minimum, as they really should be 1080p - then they might have something worthwhile. The problem is, this will totally clash with the move to Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, so being realistic, my guess would be 480p encodes. Which, of course, then makes purchasing movies this way versus DVD a really stupid decision (IMHO).
I'd love to see Apple get this right, but... I'm really not holding my breath.
What Did Arnold Know?shot in the head! seems a little severe for a mall cop!
Arnold SchwarzeneggerThe diehard Windows apologists have a hard time seeing beyond the monitor in front of them.
I have a hard time seeing past any imac with those awful glossy screens.

There is no way apple with go with Merom for the imac. One huge factor you are all ignoring, is price. Merom cost alot more than conroe for the same speed. Apple will try to lower cost, and that means going with Conroe.
It's a matter of heat. We can't be sure that they'll go Conroe if the actual heat put off by the chip (ignoring TDP quotes on either side) is much more than a G5.
I hope they use Conroe though- that would be fantastic.
But I honestly can't say that I think it will go conroe YET. It would be more likely when they have to redesign the Logic Board next year because Merom's 800MT/S FSB version will have a new socket and need the new Santa Rosa chipset. They'll be just as well off if they do a new LB at that point for Conroe.
Heroes, arnold schwarzeneggerTo me smells of political double cross. These "Senators" are all up for Election in 2012 and don't want to be tried to the alleged ailing of the current Presidential term. So they are trying to win votes of the "mothers" of America that they can talk up on TV (think political adds). They want people to think they are tough on crime, etc and not talk about their voting records.
Note: After seeing so many Presidential elections I am convinced a person is elected or re-elected based on the current economy. People vote on who they think will help boost the economy. Plus who ever is elected the opposite Political Party will have large gains in the "off year" elections. It happens all the time.

I have just installed Sophos Anti Virus - what a mistake!
I decided to install it because I have been a long term user of Sophos at work on the corporate PC and having installed the latest OSX I saw virus checkers in the App Store and a recommendation for Sophos there in a reference for another product.
I ran a scan and a couple of PC specific malware files were found and destroyed.
Then I noticed that my Time Machine back up was struggling.
It turns out that there are issues with Sophos and Time Machine.
I moved my Time Machine back ups to a DroboFS in December I have now lost all my back ups since then.
Once I have backed up again I will be deinstalling it - bet I find that I loose the new back up then!
My wife is a University employee and Sophos is one of the IT folks recommended software programs. It seems to work fine on my 2gHz MBP Core (1) Duo and on the Mini without upsetting Time Machine. My 867mHz 12" PB is slow running Leopard, barely functional if Sophos is added as well, so I do not use it on the 12". AV software may not be a necessity but, if it does not cause a problem, or slow things noticably, I think it is a reasonable precaution. I'm not sure if "herd immunity" is an apt analogy, but I think if everyone tried to avoid passing on virus/trojan/malware/spam etc it would be a good thing.

the iPhone is going to be a useless product unless they release it in big enough sizes to replace my iPod. It's like carrying two ipods around. I already have a 60 gig...why would I spend the extra money to buy an expensive phone that only holds 5 gigs or something? It's just a dumb idea, unless they release major sizes that can replace the big ipods. I don't know why everyone is drooling over this thing.
ppl are going to want it because it's a phone. I will buy it for the look.
Arnold Schwarzenegger as Kyle...I would like to be able to purchase a machine without an integrated display (aka iMac). This machine would have a graphics card in a standard slot so that it can upgraded. It would be great also to be able to remove and upgrade the hard disk, space for a second hard disk is would be a nice to have.
Currently I'm stuck in the middle between an iMac (I want a separate display, and some upgrade paths) and Mac Pro (too upgradeable for my needs, and way too expensive).
Apple really needs a pro-sumer box.
arnold schwarzenegger conanUSB3 is dead tech. You'll never see it on a Mac.
USB 3 is coming next year. The only reason Apple has yet to implement it is because Intel hasn't. But that will change in Ivy Bridge.
»Arnold SchwarzeneggerFirst, no I made no such claim. I responded to one. And the claim wasn't that it will be restricted to being Mac only, but that it will end up being Mac only, in the same sense that FW is. Some PC ship with FW, but not many. It is considered a Mac only interface. The gist is that TB may as well, if history repeats. You didn't prove anything. You see many PC's shipping with TB right now? How many PC vendors have announces support for TB? The unfortunate fact is that consumers know the USB brand, so the vendors will support it. TB might be in Intel's spec, but that doesn't mean every system will support it nor that many drive vendors will either. No. The claim simply stated 'Mac only'. Nothing more and nothing less and you agreed with said two word claim. Thunderbolt will be integrated into every Ivy Bridge chipset just like USB 3.0. It's not the same situation as FireWire in the slightest. Not only is it faster than USB 3.0 but it also works with USB via adapters as well as almost any other IO on the planet. FireWire worked only with FireWire devices.
See econgeek's post. It explains is pretty well.
You mean the one right above your post that proves you wrong? Funny stuff.
Now, who would win in a fightin all seriousness people, this thing http://snowulf.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/USB-3-Mini-B-Connector.jpg is going to scare people off...

Rumors of an Apple Phone have been ongoing for years (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2002/08/20020818203655.shtml) with Apple laying claim to the domain iPhone.org (http://www.iphone.org) since 1999 and the trademark for iPhone (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2002/12/20021203005112.shtml) in 2002. Meanwhile, a number of Phone related patents (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/05/20060505202447.shtml) have also surfaced showing that Apple has been researching this option.
Recently, analysts have claimed (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/09/20060905150232.shtml) that the Apple phone is essentially ready with a brief description:
The design will be an iPod nano-like candy bar form factor and come in three colors
Meanwhile, Steve Jobs has been said (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/08/20060811110535.shtml) to be talking up the upcoming phone, despite being traditionally secretive about unannounced products.
One reliable MacRumors.com source has provided a more detailed description of one of the prototypes for the upcoming Apple Phone. The description has yielded this artist's rendition of the phone. The phone offers a familiar look to iPod owners, with the preservation of the iPod click-wheel.
The click-wheel is closer to the bottom of the device with the screen taking a vertical orientation. The click-wheel portion of the device reportedly slides down to reveal a traditional numeric dial-pad underneath. The front is black, while the back is chrome like the current iPod.
As an artist rendition, details such as the exact proportions of the screen are not necessarily accurate.
The preservation of the click-wheel navigator could add credence to evidence (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/09/20060913170940.shtml) that iTunes has the ability to transfer the new iPod games to certain mobile phones. Jobs had stated that the games had been designed for click-wheel playability.

Arnold Schwarzenegger. ThenMeh, don't worry about the batteries. Sure, some people have problems, but my 3G ipod is still doing surprisingly well!
Mine too, although when I found out a replacement battery was available from Batteries + for around $25, I bought it and replaced it myself very easily. It's not as hard as some might think.
I'm all about apple being green too, but is it not possible that Greenpeace are making an example of apple more because of their high profile than because they are the worst offenders. Greenpeace's campaign wouldn't seem quite so "cool" if they were attacking compaq or gateway etc...
Arnold Schwarzenegger – Top 10Ah, less money for 4" more screen, a ~20% faster C2D CPU, a much much faster GPU, etc? Thankyou mister Jobs! Can't wait to see what Tuesday's iPods will be like! Not that I intend to get one, or maybe I do? Who knows? And here's to some sort of Mac with Kentsfield and R600 (More likely G80 :( ) at Macworld or maybe even earlier with a bit of luck!
It's good to know that one can get a 24" screen, 2.33 Core 2 Duo goodness with the Geforce 7600 256Mb and 2 gig RAM from 5 grand with enough cash spare to buy a new Macbook. (Well at least in edu pricing)
BTW, this is a bit irrelevant, but can anyone explain to me how one gets Xgrid, and what one needs to make it work? ie. Does it cost money, or can it be downloaded from the net, and do u need a FiberChannel card to make it work? Would be cool to have a Macbook Xgridded to a 24" iMac. Preferrably Merom Macbook and Conroe iMac. But might take a while to get that :o
Never mind. : (
Need 10.4 Server apparently, and at least 3 computers to make it worthwhile, it looks like.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is nowWhile it sounds good, I don't see this happen soon at all. Also, Verizon disagrees with you, because they are pulling fiber to the homes in several (large) cities and more to come. The investment for 4G (802.16e I assume you're talking about)will be much too high while not providing enough guarantees it will be financial feasible in short and mid term to make shareholders feel confortable. But if it will, Apple will get my money :) But are there enough gadget geeks like me in the world? That will make or break the project.....
It boils down to suburban, rural, and rural-suburban access.
Currently Satellite will do it at high cost. (hughesnet.com)
2G will do it with crippled bandwidth and high cost.
POTS will do it with crippled speed and uncrippled cost.
Big cities are never the biggest nut to crack.

Really!? You never received a quality product? In 20 years? Please tell.
The closest was Windows 2000 Professional. I quit at XP.
My flat mate has one of those new Fusion based Netbooks. Seems pretty good. Could see the next gen of them in an Air. Considering getting one myself when I find one not made by Acer.
There are already AMD Fusion laptops from many vendors.
Preemble clarification: I use Toast in a highly unorthodox way - nothing to do with writing DVDs or CDs. I use it most of the time to write DVD IMAGES that Handbrake understands how to make priistine mp4 files from. I am able to reduce a 4.3GB original EyeTV HD broadcast recording down to 351MB using this method. The result is an excellent, albeit soft, version of the original that can go on an iPod or two on a CD and when played on an analog TV looks like a DVD. On a HD monitor it still looks great. Just a little soft.
I haven't explored what else we can run simultaneously beyond Toast and Handbrake. I can run as many instances of those as I like. But I run out of cores even just running both of them because they will each use more than two cores given the chance to run alone. Running them simultaneously even with a second Handbrake running third, still gets all the jobs done faster than waiting for two to run and then running the third. Handbrake will process up to about 150-160 fps when two copies are running while it will process only about 93-100 fps alone.
Handbrake FPS readings vary a lot between the analysis pass and the writing pass - much slower writing on the second pass than studying-planning the writing scheme on the first pass on both the Quad and the Mac Pro. On the Mac Pro, Toast will use almost all 4 cores given no competition. But so far I'm not convinced it is encoding EyeTV recordings for DVD images much faster than it does on teh Quad - yes 7.1 UB. I need to go back and exact time some encodes on the Mac Pro then compare that here on the Quad to tell.
Just tried to launch a second copy of EyeTV and it's a no go. Maybe if I have another liscense with another tuner like the new hybrid it will work with a second copy - don't know yet. Probably getting a hybrid tuner yet so I can record two shows at once.
A Multi-Instance and Multi-Core Usage Guide would be a great help. Does someone with authorization want to start a thread on this subject? I am not authorized to create new threads. But I would be happy to contribute to it. If someone with new thread creation permission does it, please post a link to it here. Thank you.Well anyone here can start a Guide on the wiki. Ask around if anyone else knows more on the subject. Otherwise I picked you from our previous ramblings on Core 2 Duo and quad-core machines.
Edit: Interesting usage of Toast/Handbrake there.
64bit addressing arrives with the new cpu. so the point is that napa64 isn't really new, it just uses merom instead of yonah.I guess that resolves the Napa32/64 argument. If there ever was one...
Yeah that will be the Mac Pro Jr. while the rest of the Mac Pros will be running pairs of Clovertowns.Cube? 24" iMac?

well, take a look at this video. new red nano looks exactly the same like other 2nd nano. but it's red. click wheel is white. now, it answers what you guys are curious about it.

Extreme! I really hope for hi-quality movies, and not just 640x480. A new line-up would be nice too. :D
