arnold schwarzeneggerMy iMacs have 2 Firewire ports (a 27" and a 24") which I use for TM and a SD clone external. The new iMacs only have one FW port - with 4 USB connections. Seems like a slower way to have to back up, and I see no externals out there that run Thunderbolt.
Am I missing something?
You can daisy chain the Firewire drives.
I'm assuming you don't run both backups at the same time as both would be competing for the internal drive and would make the whole process much slower what with all the seeking well and internal drive speed being the limiting factor. So if only one device is moving data at a time then the two devices in Daisy Chain shouldn't be noticeably slower than on dedicated ports.

Other songs from their hard drives. That would be truly awesome! I do hope that that makes it into the final product.
Zac+efron+shirtless+2011Can't wait! But I will have to. Now we're getting this close and the rumours are starting - there's no way I would ever buy a new iMac until the update. If my current one breaks then the real waiting game begins.

I think you mean 4% of 142 million $.....
Samsung's worldwide turnover was only 138.4 billion for 2010. So I'm guessing Apple buys about $6 billion.

By "chipset" people usually refer to the southbridge/northbridge-combo. In this case that is the Intel Express 945.

Of course they will. They are pretty up on things over there. Thats a smart company decision.
2011 BlancBiehn ProductionsI have no idea how this would be useful. Buffer times, connection loss, no WiFi around, these are all problems that will prevent this from working.
What's wrong with storing music on hard drives locally?
Apr 21, 2011 at 6:51pmApple needs to start paying it's employees better... Seriously, it seems like there is a robbery at an Apple Store every other day. Maybe TLC will make a movie about it soon, "The Deadliest Retail Job" HAHA

arnold schwarzenegger nowadaysWhen Steve Jobs intoduced the 5G iPod in October last year he made it very clear that its release completed Apple's 2005 holiday season line-up. "What's our holiday line-up look... it's stonger than ever been. The line-up has never looked this good" he said.
After releasing updates to every iPod product line at Tuesday's Showtime event he left a very big opening for a major product announcement between now and the holidays. Steve said "I hope this gives you a feeling for what we've got lined up for this holiday season."
Steve Jobs chooses his words very carefully. If Apple's holiday line-up was now complete - he would have said so emphatically.
I don't think that any new announcements before Christmas will include a 6G video iPod - because this would really get up the nose of 5.5G iPod purchasers.

XP shows them with the same names, but it's irrelevant to the discussion at hand. There is no "App Store" in the screenshot.
Shows what with the same names?
And I think it is relevant to the entire discussion. IF they have never used 'applications' in a 'general' or specific way on any type of their OSs then why pick a fight over Apple's use of AppStore, who have been using the term 'Applications' in their OSs and in their ecosystem and brand recognition lingo.
And your right, you don't see an 'App Store' in this screenshot or on any Windows OS or mobile OS.
EDIT: NVM! as noted by logandzwon "Anything ending in .exe will have the same description." Which makes my argument weak and mute.

In 1986, SchwarzeneggerJust seen on Mashable that Apple is now releasing a new iPod touch aimed at children. Now the Catholic church is suing Apple because they are naming this new device iTouch Kids.
ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER MOVIESHi, I've been lurking for the last few months waiting for the refresh. This'll be my first home Mac (got a Mac Pro and MBP in my office).
I ordered the 27" i7 Quad yesterday with 2GB 6970 and trackpad. Got the standard 4GB RAM and will add some more myself. It's a shame about the target display mode as I was hoping to use the iMac sporadically as a display in the lounge when my buddies bring their Xbox 360's round but hopefully there'll be a HDMI/DVI/Mini display port > ThunderBolt box. It's a pretty expensive occasional use proposition though and it might be easier to throw a 100 TFT display in a cupboard to get out for gaming.
I look forward to seeing some benchmarks.

show me the law that says it'l illegal to notify other drivers of a cop checking speeds, or to notify the position of a DUI check point.
Most state courts have come down on the side of motorists who flash headlights as a signal, arguing that it is protected speech.
Where illegal, like Washington State, it's typically flashing high beams itself that isn't legal (safety reasons or whatever), and not the sharing of information about a speed trap.

$100B past Microsoft in 1 year is tremendous. Go AAPL!
Sad day for dem boys in Redmond
I'm sure they're quite sad having that kind of performance.
Congrats!:D
Do you feel better about yourself now?
yawn..
they both made billions... who cares.
Really.
Congratulations to apple, eventually this day had to come. Microsoft has been slacking off in the past few years and this will make them see the larger picture.
Sent from my iPhone
What larger picture will they see? 90% of the market isn't enough?
Microsoft is DEAD. And so is Google.
GO APPLE!
It will be Chapter 11 any day now.
In the quarter where Apple will still be selling alot of iPads? And release a new iMac? I highly doubt that would be enough. Let's not forget about Back to School either.
Also, does anyone think Apple will soon be forced to bail Microsoft out? ;)
Like Microsoft did for them back in the 90's?
Microsoft lets too many things die on the vine. Everything has to be run up the flagpole to get the green light, and that whole process takes so long that nothing truly innovative ever happens.
Windows 7 is awesome, Office 2010 is awesome, and I sure do love my Xbox 360, but right now, mobile gadgets sell. Zune was a bust, Courier looked amazing but was cancelled for some reason (I REALLY wanted a Courier), and Windows Phone 7.....jury's out. I would buy a Windows 7 phone before I'd buy an Android phone, but who knows what kind of lasting support it's going to have. Maybe when Nokia is making these in full force I'll take another look.
I've been saying it for the last year, and I'll say it again--Microsoft is in a death spiral. The days of people camping out in line for the next version of Windows are over.
Record profits and that's a death spiral? So it's all about the iTards camping out for the iPad and iPhone? Now THAT"S intelligence.
"The problem with Microsoft is they just have no taste." - Steve Jobs

Funny how the classless Jobs bashes his competition at every opportunity.
Oh I see, you're a smart ass. Oh how cute!!!
Tell ya what little boy, Besides a business degree I also hold CCE and CFCC from the AACE as well as a PMP from the PMI. On top of all that, I have worked in the industry for over 35 years. I forgot more about business that your sarcastic smart ass will ever know.
And trust me, my degree and certs have little to do with it. A grade school kid knows that a company that just posted a quarter with revenues of $16.43 billion (which is an increase of 13% from the same period in 2010), and profit of $5.23 billion isn't "DEAD"...
Obviously you don't understand that, in which case, you wouldn't even be a good clerk. Judging from you childish post, I do think I've met before. Haven't I heard you say "Would you like fries with that Sir"????
ROFL!
andy roddick shirtless 2011.Pull them... As trauma surgeon I see the tragedies caused by drunk drivers EVERY Day. Whoever is on agreement to provide means to avoid check points is invited to my local trauma center to see the victims and their families. If we can save one life, one innocent student or parent, even someone who made the mistake of drinking and driving... I would consider this worth.
Besides, the cost of taking care of those who do not die, but spend weeks months or years in the hospital due to a drinking related accident is enormous.
Speed radars are another big issue. In my state, its ok to refuse a helmet while driving a donor-cycle, as we call them, yesterday alone, we lost one kid who is waiting for transplant procurement and half a dozen were admitted with severe injuries most of them traumatic brain injuries while driving motorcycles.
And what if the apps encourage people to not drink and and drive? You're basing this on nothing. No facts whatsoever on whether or not this will promote or make drunk driving easier. Please don't be my surgeon if you're not into facts.
Arnold SchwarzeneggerInteresting, but not sure how good the design is with 2 dual core processors
back to back.
I agree if Apple decides to use this at all it may be in a new smaller tower, or
Intel will sell this in a more affordale prosumer market for P/C's only.
Apple has gone server class Xeon in their Pro Towers, so it would be going backward
using Conroes.
I think you're right arn,
Just because Apple has agreed to use Intel chips, does not mean that every Intel chip
will be good enough to put in an Apple product.
danny devito and arnoldThe truth is that the Nokia adoption in America is minimal but that isn't the case around the world.
In Latin America Nokia and Blackberry are the top phone brands. I can safely say that by the end of this year there will be WP7 Nokia phones available around the world and they might be a big hit just because they are already very well known for the Nokia hardware.
Who knows what will happen but believe me that it definitely has turned into a three horse race.

I mean people are saying that Conroe is too hot for the iMac as it is (I don't think they are) but Kentsfield is two Conroe dies on one package. Meaning almost double the power consumption and heat generation.
The thermal requirements for Yonah and Merom are 35W. Conroe is 65W. The old G5 at 2Ghz was 39W so roughly the same as Yonah/Merom although the power management wasn't as good with it not being a laptop chip.
The Core 2 Extreme version of Conroe has a 75W rating. Kentsfield is being introduced as a Core 2 Extreme chip first so I'd guess it also has a 75W rating.
Chances of seeing a Conroe Quad in an iMac - non-existent.
except this isn't about a band. its about a charity.
same deal to me, its a publicity stunt
then why can't McGiver (MacGiver) make it right now?:D

If a few people on MacRumors find me to be childish, I really couldn't care less. Believe me, what you guys think of me is not going to ruin my chances of getting into an Ivy League school, or from becoming a successful adult.
-Don
Hmm and my opinion of Ivy League schools goes down more.
Shows that many who go in and come out of there are unethical. Explains why so much wrong with the country because it is lead by the unethical people.
Like I said before I hope and pray you never get in position that requires ethics because clearly you have none and your parents fail to teach you any.
That and it looks like you come from family with out ethics.
